Have Brian Speak to Your Group About Agathism

You may have heard motivational speakers in the vein of "I had brain cancer, but now I'm better," or "I was born dirt poor, but now I'm a millionaire, thanks to my speaking gigs." Why are such speakers ineffective? One piece is missing: steps audience members can take the next day to improve their own lives.

Such speakers leave me cold. Sure, the rah-rah part can be moving, but like a sunburn, what's left 2 days later? When I listen to a speaker, questions linger in the back of my mind: so what? What can I take from this speech to improve my own life? What's in it for me? Since that's what I like from other speakers, it's the way I deliver my own presentations. There has to be a bottom line improvement or it's not worth the audience's time. I have no sad personal story to tell, so I focus on what folks can do to improve themselves.

That said, there are many things people can do every day to make life easier. From my management & training background, I've learned a great deal about what motiviates people. My psychology studies have given me even greater insights into the workings of the human mind, where the best work can be done. I share that knowledge with the audience, so they have something they can use immediately.
